Nice piece on the Buena Vista, including the creation of an Irish Coffee. We had the pleasure of being treated to an Irish Coffee making demonstration by bartender John on our Hyde Street Pier/Buena Vista expedition on Thursday, May 18th, 2023.

As San Franciscans grapple with the cold this holiday season, some will flock to the Buena Vista Cafe on the corner of Hyde and Beach streets to indulge in the specialty that’s made the iconic bar and restaurant a mainstay for locals and tourists alike: Irish coffee.
“If you’ve been here on a weekend morning, you’ll see at every single table families of all ages, kids too ... all the adults, you’ll see they’ll have Irish coffee with their breakfast, and the kids wanting to have it, and when they grow up, they have it, and they bring their kids in,” said General Manager Larry Silva. “It’s kind of like a home away from home.”
The Buena Vista has been a hotspot in San Francisco for more than 100 years. With its dark wood interior, communal seating and prime location right by the water, Silva said it has remained so beloved because of its coziness and comfort it provides to patrons, celebrities included. It is especially popular in December.
