Helicopter commuting
Len Holmes
Yes indeed, the helicopter did exist.  I’m not positive, but I think for a very short time there was a hover craft crossing the bay as well.

My wife took the helicopter from SFO to Oakland on one occasion in the early 70s.

There was a landing pad in Lafayette not far
and across from the reservoir, just uphill and behind where the Veteran’s building is today.  There might have been another pad elsewhere in the east bay.

Happy contribute emeries.

Hello Len and SFTGG Guides,

And speaking of emeries,
There may have been a heliport at the Emeryville Marina.
As I recall all of the helicopters were airworthy,
however,
the heliports were not originally designed to be heliports,
and therefore had safety issues.
To quote the late Herb Caen,
Helicopter commuting may be an idea whose time has past.

Happy Boxing Day,
Bob
